Will I Be Able To Stay Home?

In 2009 is it possible to live on 1 income? My son is now 13 and I do want another child, but once I have another child will I be able to stay home? Or is is back to work after 3 months? I ask myself this question every month. How much money does it take to run our house hold? We live in a country where people do live on one income and it works for them, but can this work for everyone? What will I need to give up and go without? Can I live without certain things; such as getting my hair done every 2 weeks and my pedicures - this is my down time and rather I go to work or stay home I need down time. Due I have to courage to take the leap and stop working??? Maybe I need to try living on one income for 6 months and see how that goes and I will have my answer.

I know how you feel. I faced this decision twice and feel like I took the easy way out and kept working. Hindsight being 20/20 I know we could have survived on one income. There are savings associated with staying home that are not considered. Look at how much you really bring how, take your net salary, subtract the cost of gas used to drive to and from work and lunch purchased at work. The result is roughly how much you are really bringing home. If you want to replace you income and become a work at home mom (wahm) you can stay home initially and replace the smaller number. I know women who stayed home no matter what, threatened divorce and went into debt, but when I look at all the years I have worked and the things we have gone into debt for, I would prefer it was to stay home with our children.
